Annual Fee Value Calculator

A $95–$895 annual fee is sold against a stack of credits and perks priced at their maximum. Run the math on what you’ll actually capture.

Annual Fee Value Calculator

Weigh a card’s annual fee against what you’ll actually capture — not the issuer’s “up to $X in value” headline.

Illustrative estimate only, using the numbers you enter. Value a credit at $0 unless you’re confident you’ll actually activate and use it — a credit that requires merchant-locked, semi-annual timing you don’t normally follow captures at well under its stated maximum for most cardholders. Rewards value depends on your redemption rate, which varies by program.

FAQ

Why not just use the issuer's stated 'up to $X in value'?

Issuers price the credit stack at full utilization of every credit, every year — most cardholders don't hit that. This calculator asks for the value you'll realistically capture instead, so the result reflects your actual habits, not the marketing ceiling.

How do I value a credit I don't always remember to use?

Enter $0 for it, or discount it well below its stated maximum. A $200 hotel credit you activate twice a year and use once is worth roughly half its face value at best — count what you'll actually redeem, not what's available.

What counts as 'extra rewards value vs. a no-fee card'?

Only the incremental value — the extra cashback or points this card earns above what a $0-annual-fee card would earn on the same spend, valued at your own redemption rate (e.g., 1 cpp for a flat transfer, more if you route through a sweet-spot redemption).

This calculator is for general education, not financial, legal, or tax advice. Results are estimates based on the numbers you enter and standard month-by-month amortization; your actual interest depends on your issuer’s balance-calculation method, compounding, and the exact APR, fees, and terms of your card, which vary by issuer.
