Penalty APR

A higher APR that kicks in after a missed payment, often as high as 29.99%.

Issuers can apply the penalty APR for up to 6 billing cycles after a late payment. Some issuers waive penalty APRs entirely; others apply them aggressively. Always check the Schumer Box for the issuer's penalty-APR policy.
