A fee (usually 1-3%) charged when a transaction is processed outside the U.S.

Most travel cards waive foreign transaction fees. The bigger trap is dynamic currency conversion (DCC) — always decline the merchant's offer to convert to USD at checkout; let your card network do the conversion at market rate.
