How to actually pick a card.
Skip the sign-up-bonus chase. Start with what the card needs to DO for you, then check it against where your credit actually is today.
Pay off a balance faster
If you're carrying debt, the fee structure matters more than the rewards rate. Start with the 0% intro-APR window — it buys time to pay principal instead of interest.

For groceries, gas, and dining, a flat or category cash-back rate compounds quietly. Look at the annual fee against your real spend before you chase a bonus.

Points and miles are worth more or less depending on how you redeem them. The right travel card fits your loyalty program and your actual trip patterns.

A thin or recovering file needs a card that reports to all three bureaus and keeps the fee low while you build payment history.

Every tier has cards built for it — approval odds go up when you shop the right tier first.
Ranges are general FICO guidance, not a guarantee — issuers weigh income, existing debt, and other factors too.

Our standards
“We score every card the way we’d pick one for ourselves — by the math, never by who pays us.”
Every card runs the same 5-dimension, 100-point rubric — rewards, fees, audience fit, transparency, and the weakness named. Set by the published methodology, not by partner commissions.
ClearValue Cards earns compensation solely through our CardRatings partnership, paid when a reader clicks out to CardRatings from our match tool. It never changes a card's score or where it ranks. How we make money
Every fee and APR is sourced from the issuer's published Schumer Box and stamped with the date we last reviewed it — always confirm the current terms at the issuer before you decide.

Frequently asked
How does ClearValue Cards make money?
Straight answer: when you click out to CardRatings from our match tool, they pay us. That's it — one partner, and only when you leave. Here's the part that matters. That money never touches a card's score or where it lands in the ranking. Every card runs the same published 100-point rubric. So the card up top is up top because the math put it there — not because someone paid to sit there.
How are the cards scored?
Five things, every card, same rubric: the real rewards rate, the fees, who it actually fits, how transparent the issuer is, and the weakness. Every card has one — we name it. Add it up and that's the 100-point ClearValue Score. The whole rubric is published, so you can check our work and see exactly how a card earned its number.
Is ClearValue Cards a bank or a credit card issuer?
No. We don't issue cards, we don't approve anybody, we don't set a single rate. We're an independent publisher that reviews cards and lines them up side by side for you — and when you're ready to pick one, we hand you off to the issuer or a partner. That's the whole job.
What happens when I use “Find my card”?
It's a few quick questions, and they never leave your browser. No account, no signup, no credit check. You answer, we show you the type of card that actually fits how you spend. From there, if you want to see live offers, we hand you off to CardRatings. Your call, always.
How current are the fees and APRs you show?
Every fee and every APR comes straight from the issuer's own Schumer Box and pricing pages — and we stamp each review with the date we last checked it, so you can see how fresh it is. But here's the reality: terms change all the time, and they vary by who's applying. So we link you right to the issuer. Confirm the number yourself before you decide — don't take our word for a rate that might've moved.
